The job of a Radio Jockey consists mainly of the following:

• Conceptualizing the show
• Scripting the show
• Hosting the show
• Adding special effects, if required
• Taking phone call while being ‘Live’ On-Air
• Report on the traffic & weather
• Announcing prizes
• Scheduling various spots and jingles
• Playing music

However, the above may differ from one radio station to the other, as per their working environment.

Radio jockeying has grown so much in the past few years. It is a field that attracts every youth and very challenging as well. Majority of youngsters are looking for radio jockey (RJ) jobs nowadays because it is a field which is full of entertainment and passion. In a group of herds there are only few people who have an ability to stand apart. This is the karizma of being an RJ. People prefer to hear professional always and to be an RJ you need to be very
sharp minded. There are certain other points such as good communication skills, ability to write good script etc. also help in building a good career start up.

We must tell you that not even as an RJ but anyone can apply for other post in a radio station as well. Anyone can join a radio station as sound recordist, free lancer, voice over artist etc. and even apply for senior positions after experience.

Radio Jockey’s Job Profile

• Need to play music to entertain your listener
• Interviewing guests and celebrities on radio
• Should be able to present and discuss any topic in different ways to attract audience and do general discussion with them
• Update people with local, national as well as international news
• Knowing local culture of your working city is necessary
• As your job is not conventional job like, you should be open to work anytime

As more and more private players like Radio City, Radio Mirchi is coming to this business stream there is lot of scope for RJ
Besides RJ, you can work as event anchors and comperes, as voice-over artists for television and movies.
You can also do commercial Ads and use your voice in dubbed movies and animated shows
